Ask The Expert

In this month’s Ask the Expert section, our spa therapist Victoria Hassall explains why our cold mist shower and refreshing ice fountain are a perfect way to complete your spa session.

What are the benefits of having a cold mist shower and using the ice fountain after your sauna session?

Using our cold mist shower and ice fountain after a sauna and steam room session has a range of benefits and really compliments the heat experience.

Stepping into our cold mist shower gradually lowers your skin temperature, stimulating circulation and leaving you feeling energised. When you move between heat and cold, this causes blood vessels to dilate in the sauna and constrict when exposed to the cold.

Our shower also features a tropical fragrance, and when combined with cool water, it awakens the senses and boosts alertness.

Our ice fountain allows you to rub crushed ice over your skin after a sauna or the steam room, and the refreshing sensation leaves many people feeling invigorated and ready for the day ahead.  After exercise, it also has a cooling effect on tired muscles and joints.

The best way to use the heat and cooling experiences at The Cove Spa:

  • Relax in our juniper sauna for around 15 minutes – or as long as feels comfortable
  • Step into the cool mist shower to begin cooling down
  • Head to our ice fountain and apply ice to your face, legs and arms
  • Rest for 10-15 minutes and rehydrate before repeating the cycle

Repeating this cycle, makes many people feel deeply relaxed and rejuvenated.

Speak to one of our spa therapists if you have any questions or would like to know more about the benefits of cooling down after a sauna session.
