Q – After waxing, how long should I wait until I have a warm shower or use the spa?
Our spa manager Beverley says:
Great question. This is something we’re asked a lot.
At The Cove Spa, after every wax treatment, we always apply cooling, antibacterial aftercare lotion. This helps to soothe and protect your skin and removes any wax residue. A few hours after this, it’s fine to have shower at a low temperature, but make sure you use gentle, fragrance-free products to avoid irritating your skin.
Although cool showers are fine, it’s best to avoid saunas, steam rooms, the jacuzzi, and swimming pools for 24-48 hours. This is because immediately after waxing, your hair follicles and pores are exposed, meaning your skin is more sensitive to heat than usual and more prone to irritation and infection.
Remember that any kind of heat can aggravate freshly waxed skin and increase the risk of ingrown hairs and infection. As well as avoiding hot water and spa facilities, it’s also best to wear loose-fitting clothing straight after your wax, to minimise friction and allow your skin time to recover.
